Copyright Vocabulary

1. Copyright- A protection against your work granted by the U.S Constitution
2. Fair Use-How much of the information that you can use legally
3. First Sale Doctrine-Allows a person to have a copyright without permission just once and just as long as no other copies are made.
4. Intellectual Property- You can't steal anything that is part of your imagination.
5. Patent- Your possession of granted by the U.S Patent Office only for a limited time
6. Permission- Giving consent to use someone else's work.
7. Phonorecords- Technology that allows music for example to be stored in a digital format such as a flash-drive
8. Plagiarism-To steal someone else's work
9. Public Domain-When the copyright has expired and is legal to everyone for usage.
10. Trademark- A word or symbol used to identify a product or service in the marketplace.
